Why Drinking Alcohol Can Cause Bruising

The condition may be acute (one episode that resolves) or it can be chronic (lasting throughout your life). Treatment involves avoiding any activities that increase the risk of bleeding. Medication may also be needed, particularly if you have to have surgery or are experiencing extreme bleeding. Some over-the-counter medicines such as aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (like ibuprofen), Plavix® (clopidogrel) and blood thinners (like Coumadin®) can increase your tendency to bruise.
